Each concert season brings live music of all kinds to be enjoyed by all who live in or are just visiting our beautiful mountain community. Bring your family and friends to experience the exciting sounds of the Oakhurst Community Concert Band!
Our next concert will be Sunday June 25th, 3:00 PM, at Mountain Christian Center with this repertoire for the Concert: (TBD) You do not want to miss this one, it will be fun and packed with energy and excitement!
Our 45-piece band has become a mountain treasure. In addition to providing spectacular concerts, our more experienced members mentor band students and assist YHS school programs from football to musicals to graduation. As always, our concerts are free!
The Band is a 501(c)(3) non-profit public benefit corporation, and relies on business and individual support, as we don’t do fundraisers (This is it!). Year 2014 presented a special challenge as we lost music and equipment when the 'Junction Fire' destroyed our storage facility. OUR FIRST rehearsal for the Patriotic Concert will be Monday April 17, 6:30 pm in the YHS Band Room. We only have 8 rehearsals for this concert. Note that we will not have rehearsals on May 8th

The Oakhurst Community Band, as we know it now, is the result of a few musician's lifelong love of music and his refusal to "let the music die". Loren Callan, and his wife Betty, retired to Oakhurst in 1998 and Loren began playing his trumpet with the Oakhurst Community Band. When then band director, Michael Corrigan (who initially started the band) became too busy to give the band the attention he wanted to give it, Loren was happy to take over directing duties, drawing on his experience as a musician and director during his school years. After Loren's death in December, 2003, Randy Hyatt, band director at Yosemite High School and Loren's assistant director, took over as director of the band. In late 2016, Randy Hyatt retired and a re-energized Michael Corrigan once more took over the helm as director.

Mike has been an instrumental music educator in California
for forty-five years. he received his bachelor’s degree in
music from California State University, Long Beach. He
served for several seasons as conductor of the Pacific
Symphony Youth Wind Ensemble, an auditioned group which drew
students from Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San
Bernardino, and San Diego Counties. They performed in the
new Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall of the Orange
County Performing Arts Center.
Mike has previously taught at Mater Dei High School (twenty-five years), Yosemite High School (five years), Clovis High School (seven years), and Aliso Niguel High School (two years). Mike taught as band director at Santa Monica High School (three years), and in Manhattan Beach Unified School District (two years). He also directed the Santa Monica College Emeritus Concert Band for 5 years. He has produced highly successful marching bands at each of his assignments (including recent state champions at Aliso Niguel). His groups have consistently received unanimous superior ratings in local festivals, as well as festivals throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. He also served as the Music Resource Specialist for the Capistrano Unified School District during his tenure at Aliso Niguel.
Mike has served as president of the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association (SCSBOA), and president of the California Band Directors Association (CBDA). He served as a Head Judge for SCSBOA. He has adjudicated numerous festival and marching band events throughout the United States, and is frequently called to guest conduct select honor groups. His bands and orchestras have received “Unanimous Gold” recognitions at Carnegie Hall and The Kennedy Center.
His bands and orchestras have traveled extensively. Past performances include:
Three European Tours (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, England, Ireland).
Two Canadian Tours (Vancouver, Calgary)
Two Western United States Tours (California Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada).
Two Hawaiian Islands Tours (Oahu, Maui, Hawaii, Molokai).
Two New York Tours (Carnegie Hall).
One Washington D.C. Tour (Kennedy Center).
And add to that, The Walt Disney Concert Hall, as well!
Mike has received recognition from many music educator organizations, including:
Hall of Fame award from the California Music Educators Association (2017).
Legion of Honor Award - John Philip Sousa National Foundation.
Distinguished Service Award - California Band Directors Association.
Honorary Life Member - Southern California School Band and Orchestra Assoc.

Randy Hyatt became Conductor of the Oakhurst Community
Concert Band in November, 2003, succeeding the late Loren
Callan. He retired in Dec 2016 and handed the baton over to
band-founder Michael Corrigan. Randy has been active in music
and music education for over 27 years, including a former
stint as band and choir instructor at Yosemite High School.
He received his BA in Music Education from CSU Fresno, and
also has an MA in Education Administration. Throughout his
teaching career Randy has held various positions providing
experience in every area of music education. While teaching
at Roosevelt School of the Arts in Fresno he worked with
several students who have continued on into prestigious
music careers, including Tony Award winner Audra McDonald.
Outside of school, Randy has been active in community events
including staging productions at Saroyan Theatre for
Northwest Church. As Conductor of The Oakhurst Community
Concert Band, Randy worked enthusiastically to continue
Loren's dream of a first class community band providing
memorable concerts and a venue for musicians of all ages to
come together to share the joy of playing music.

Pat has a lifetime of music experience teaching and
playing throughout the United States. Pat began his
professional musical career at the ripe age of fourteen by
playing trumpet and saxophone with a polka/dance band in
central Wisconsin. He became a music teacher in 1965 after
earning a degree in music education in Arizona. He played
euphonium, trumpet, and tuba with the Arizona 108th Army
National Guard Band for thirteen years. He began with the
Yosemite Jazz Band on tuba in 1996 and is now playing his

Bill is a frequent contributing conductor for the OCCB, and
is highly respected for ability to direct jazz and rock
ensembles of every ilk. He recently retired as Minarets High
School's music director.

who will assist with the handing out of programs, assist people as they
enter our theater, and provide assistance to those who might need special
assistance with a wheel chair or walker. Band Auxiliary-
As we all know, the great snacks
during intermission contribute to the “Community” atmosphere at our
concerts. We need a team leader to assist with the gathering of the snacks
Many of these positions could be filled by family or
friends who are not active in performing with our band. Please assist our
board in spreading the word regarding these important positions and consider
the area where you might like to serve!
